retail chains just posted the worst October sales results in more than three decades, prompting the International Council of Shopping Centers to pare its already grim forecast for holiday season sales. So I know I will be shopping in that corner."
"But if [people] do feel they need an affordable little treat . More specifically, she said store managers in New York City the epicenter of the Wall Street meltdown were noticing new faces in their shoppers' midst lately.
Another discount avenue that is growing in popularity is sample sales, where fashion companies aim to unload excess goods at deep discounts. They have traditionally been held in cities like New York or Los Angeles, but a number of companies have emerged that now do the same thing online.
Top Button is one such company, which said it is getting a boost as fashion dresses wholesale become more bargain-conscious and the credit crisis forces some fashion brands out of business.
"We haven't seen a decrease in shopping," said Top Button co-founder Michael Feldman. Feldman said they sold 1,200 pieces in five hours.
"People still have to go to parties. They may change their shopping habits . but life doesn't stop," Feldman said.
That sentiment is being shared by executives at Ann Taylor, which usually sells many special occasion items like wholesale evening dresses, cashmere sweaters and party tops during November and December.
"Even in these challenging times, we still believe there will be parties, although they may take on a slightly different tone," said spokeswoman Maria Sceppaguercio.
For Laurice Rahme, founder and chief executive of boutique perfume-maker Bond No. 9, there may be fewer party invitations this year, but no drop off in shopping, especially when it comes to her favorite designer, Marc Jacobs.

Get the Benefits of Buying T

If you contract in wholesale clothing, you must be alert of the latest fashion market trends. One such trend which has conquered the type of casual dressing is that of wearing t-shirts. Both men and women find them appealing and comfortable to wear.
If you contract in wholesale men jeans, you must be alert of the latest fashion market trends. One such trend which has conquered the type of casual dressing is that of wearing t-shirts. Both men and women find them appealing and comfortable to wear. The best thing about such casual t-shirts is that you can wear with dress pants, jeans, shorts, skirts and hot pants. In informal organizations and also some offices, t-shirts are a common wear. Dealing in t-shirts is apparently supposed to be not that gainful of a niche but since traders buy them in bulk, the do make good income. Hence for those who deal in large volumes, purchasing t-shirts in bulk is cost-effective. Retailers can also take the advantages of buying plain t-shirts in bulk and customizing them by printing their own logo or designs on them. The truth remains that plain t-shirts are as popular and stylish as the printed ones.
Hiring a designer to design prints for t-shirts could also be a very profitable idea for retailers as well as wholesale suppliers. There are some manufacturers of designer t-shirts who deal directly with the retailers, this way you can save even more by cutting the supplier from supply chain. One important requirement for such deal is that you need a warehouse to stock them. There are various retailers who have earned international reputation through their modified designs and have been encouraging for entrepreneurs as well as the research students. Many companies offer modified prints and logo services through their chinese fashion mens clothing website dinodirect.com. You can even make your own designs by using the software installed at their website. Many of us remember how the low quality t-shirts with vanishing prints on them shifted the buying trends to formal shirts. It has been really hard to continue with not wearing t-shirts but thanks to better printing technology and better material, printed t-shirts are now available in wild fine quality and bright new designs.
This expanding t-shirt industry is supporting a large chain connected from one end to countries like Egypt, India and Pakistan where millions of households earn their living through this industry. The other end is extended to high street fashion designers who design the t-shirts which celebrities wear to show off their ample curves and abs. The material used for the manufacturing of t-shirt has also improved ten times. If you find an apparently attractive t-shirt cheaper than the simple one, be sure that the later is pure cotton and offers more comfort and luxury. There are dozens of retail outlets which deal solely in t-shirts, many of them are famous and create their own designs. The customers can choose their favorite color, cover style, fabric and also the design they want on the shirt. It takes 4 to 10 days before an order is ready and of course the wholesale t-shirts suppliers and retailers offer discounts on bigger orders.

Recycle old clothes, pick up some new ones at ‘style-swap’ parties

So how many KyForward readers have heard of ‘naked lady parties’? If you don’t know what it is, don’t be nervous… we’re talking about a gals-only clothing exchange, also called a ‘style swap’. I recently got to see one of these first hand, and am consequently wearing some comfy new-to-me sweaters and such.
The whole idea is to get your friends (and friends of friends, and family… whomever you’re comfortable with) together to find new owners for items that don’t fit you or are no longer worn… like that shirt that you thought looked good in the store but you’ve never brought yourself to actually wear out of the house. A host can invite the ladies to bring clothing, wholesale childrens shoes, and jewelry that are clean and in good condition, as well as food/ drink (my friend who hosted provided a Bloody Mary bar and we all provided brunch-fixins). When you arrive with your unwanted items, they’re placed on sofas, chairs, and wherever there’s room (if you separate items by type – shoes in one place, dresses another, scarves a third, etc. – it’s a bit more orderly).
We then proceeded to catch up with old friends, get to know new ones, and enjoy all sorts of tasty food. When everyone had arrived and eaten, we moved into the room with all the mens suits wholesale clothing. This is the fun part. People just start picking up items and trying them on. If you’re comfortable with your friends you may even strip down to skivvies to try a shirt or pair of pants – hence the party name.
One person might hold up a dress and say “Well, this won’t fit me, but it sure would look good on you”. Another friend might say “I love these pants but only wore them once.” There were gals of all shapes, sizes, and styles at the one I went to – friends who had recently had kids and friends that had gained or lost weight, and people that were gifted things that just didn’t fit their style. This is the beauty of the naked lady party. Instead of shopping for a whole new wardrobe, you can supplement with great things from your friends!
After the swap, there will inevitably be items that aren’t headed for the closet of anyone in the room. These items can be donated to an organization like Suit Yourself Career Studio or Goodwill. This way you can be sure things will be re-used.
I had an incredible time doing this, and I felt good about cleaning out my closet and finding a couple of things I loved… all without spending any money. This same sort of thing could be replicated with baby or children’s items, or books, or anything that you think might be appreciated by your friends. I highly recommend trying out a swap if you haven’t yet, and can’t wait to host my own!

The incident to which Harding pleaded guilty occurred on the night of April 9, 2010, beginning at the Bloomingdale’s department store at the Willow Grove Park mall in Abington.
A Bloomingdale’s security officer reported to police that a man had swept up two large armfuls of men clothing wholesale men’s jeans, having a retail value of $3,160, and ran out of the store without paying for them.
An Abington patrol officer spotted a car and driver, matching the descriptions given to police by the security officer, traveling south near the Abington Pharmacy on Old York Road.
When the officer activated his emergency lights, the car pulled over to the curb lane but then accelerated across two traffic lanes, running a red light and crashing into two vehicles at the intersection of Old York Road and Horace Avenue.
When the car came to a stop in a diagonal position over the median strip, the driver fled on foot. The patrol officer got into the car, put it in park and removed the key.
A search ensued for the suspect but he could not be found. However, on the car’s passenger seat floorboard, police found a Pennsylvania identification card belonging to Tyree Harding, who matched the description of the suspect.

It's part of Pune’s culture to appreciate theatre & film: Shabana

Shabana Azmi will perform in the play Broken Images at the Times Pune Festival today
Broken Images, a play written by Girish Karnad, directed by Alyque Padamsee will see Shabana Azmi essay two roles, rather two facets of one character and the constant dialogue between them. The play produced by Raell Padamsee will be staged today as part of the Times Pune Festival at the Nehru Memorial Hall. Excerpts of an interview with Shabana.
You had once said in an interview that art has the possibility of creating a climate of sensitivity in which it is possible for change to occur. Do you think this is possible with the current scene in our country?
More than ever before. The time has come when we stop blaming the police, social organisations or politicians. The fact is that we are dealing with a patriarchal set-up which privileges a boy over a girl. What is required now is firm investigation, fast track courts, speedy justice and punishment. And we as responsible people should reflect and analyse how we can bring about the change. And all creative art also has an important role to play.
You were here last year for the Times Pune Festival with Kaifi aur Main. Broken Images is an engrossing performance about the darkness within us all.Tell us about your experiences with the play.
The biggest challenge was the technical aspect. I play Manjula and Malini who are in dialogue with each other. One is pre-recorded so the timing has to be impeccable so I always need to be on my toes. The play is also about the envy between two sisters who love each other. The human angle is tackled beautifully.
How do you find Pune and the audience here?
Pune has always been a brilliant audience. It is part of the city's culture to appreciate theatre and film. I have spent two years at FTII and it has been the most fulfilling and nurturing part of my life.
At a time when we are fighting for a safer India, there are politicians who are making bizarre comments on the way a woman should dress and how she should stay indoors to avoid sexual harassment. Your thoughts?
It is an extremely sorry state of affairs when the country is talking about a change in the patriarchal set-up, politicians are making sexist comments. The fact is not about girls wearing wholesalers fashion clothes of their choice. It is about men being able to rape her. It is ridiculous to say that women who wear short wholesale dresses online drive a man to rape her. What about hundreds of dalit women who are clothed from head to toe and are subjected to sexual violence? You cannot stop a girl from going out of the house and earning her livelihood. It is about making our environment safer. It is about inculcating respect. The attitude has to change. We do not encourage a woman going to the police station to lodge a complaint. She is being harassed at the station and then in the court. Gender sensitisation is important. It is also important for women who have been brutalised to open up. There are other measures as well like street lighting, firm investigation and strong punishment which can act as deterrents.
Are you going to take this protest forward through your work?
We need to reflect within ourselves and there is also a need for self-regulation. We are having discussions within the film industry but it cannot be appropriated by the moral police and cannot be usurped by them. We cannot have people telling us what to do and what not to do. I have been doing my bit for the Mijwan Welfare Society founded by my father Kaifi Azmi. Education and empowerment of the girl child is extremely important for the society.

Clothing store finds good karma in downtown RI

Lindsay O’Brien never imagined that clothes she was designing for herself would lead to a business, but that is just how her Good Karma Shirt Co. began.
“I had started hula hoop dancing and wanted to make some costumes,” the Rock Island woman said. She recalled how after posting some of the items on Facebook, she quickly had friends “messaging where could they buy my stuff?”
From that initial interest, O’Brien decided last winter to take her repurposed T-shirts and tie-dye wear to the Freight House Farmers Market. After finding success at the Davenport market with a booth on Saturdays only, she now has moved into her own storefront at The Shoppes on 2nd, a new retail incubator in downtown Rock Island.
Good Karma Shirt Co., 1700 2nd Ave., is run by O’Brien, a 2010 Moline High School graduate, with help from her mother, Patty Willet.
The store features handcrafted and custom-designed repurposed cheap online clothes, hula hoops, jewelry, accessories and other products. “I’d say our clothes have a hippie feel to them,” she said, adding that her shop is attracting an audience that ranges from teens to women over 60.
O’Brien said she carries clothing she makes herself as well as vintage clothes and a line of new wholesale fashion clothing— “all made in the U.S.A.” The new line, she said, allows her to offer an assortment of sizes of the same item.
“My dream was always to open up my own store,” she said. “Now I feel like I’m on the path I was supposed to take.
“The Shoppes on 2nd is such an amazing program,” said O’Brien, who is benefiting from the program’s rent subsidy and marketing assistance. “This really nurtures startup businesses. I never imagined it (my business) would get this big and to this level so fast.
Good Karma Shirt Co. is the third tenant at the Shoppes, joining Q-C Collective, an artists’ cooperative, and Vivian’s Vintage Varieties, an antique store.
Catherine Rodgers-Ingles, executive director of The District, said O’Brien’s excitement and energy “are contagious.” “We’re so excited to have her,” she said.
She added that the Shoppes will soon be full. “We have pending business plans on the three remaining units.”
The idea behind the incubator is that the businesses can get their start there and eventually move out into a larger storefront as they grow.
Rodgers-Ingles, who operates the program for the partners — Renaissance Rock Island and the city of Rock Island — said she has a waiting list of entrepreneurs. She believes that is a sign of the good health of the local economy.
“We were catering to first-time entrepreneurs, so we didn’t know what they would come up with,” she said of the tenant mix.
The initial tenants, she added, are sharing advice, talents “and working together to help each other.” “They have all blended so nicely with each other and that has been an unexpected bonus.”
The Shoppes on 2nd is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
